About Me

Hey there, I’m Janie!

I’m a mom, wife, sister, friend, southerner, viking, foodie and wellness warrior. My family and friends have been encouraging me for several years to start this blog and share myself with the world. I’ve been a little hesitant because I didn’t feel like I had much to say that anyone would be interested in. Well, in early 2018, I had the rug pulled right out from under me and was blindsided with a breast cancer diagnosis. I went through all the stages of shock, disbelief, fear, grief and healing from the surgery and treatment. I’m not going to lie, the first few weeks and months and even years were pretty rough but I kept feeling in my heart that this struggle had a purpose. I kept feeling like the Lord was nudging me and preparing me for something greater and was pushing me to leave the nest so to speak.

So, I’m here to be truthful and authentic in every way. I want my light to shine! I dedicate this blog to my wonderful, loving parents, Dolly, who gifted me with her smile and culinary talents and Bud, who gifted me with his sense of humor and taught me I can do anything I put my mind to. I am Dolly and I am Bud – that’s my truth.

On Dolly & Bud, I want to share how I’ve turned my health around and the really tasty, nutritious way I’ve gotten here. I love to cook and food is a big part of my life and it is one of the ways I love my family, friends and myself. I’ll be sharing tasty recipes that I’ve altered to fall in line with my healthy lifestyle. I’ll take you with me as I try out different food and exercise plans. Eating healthy for your body doesn’t have to be a death sentence. It can be an adventure, an exploration in what works and what doesn’t work for you. I also love a good DIY project and will be sharing some of our renovation projects in our home. We have always had to live on a pretty tight budget so we do as much of a renovation project as we can ourselves and we’ve learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t along the way. I also want to look and dress my best in a way that is flattering to my body and celebrates my curves. And hello! It’s got to be fashionable as well! I truly believe women can dress and present themselves in an age appropriate way without looking dowdy! I’ll also be sharing my skin care tips. I’ve been blessed with Dolly’s good skin but she also taught me how to take care of it. As Bette Davis cleverly said, “old age is no place for sissies” so let’s do all we can to take care of our skin, inside and out. Trust me, you can slather your skin with every expensive treatment out there, but until you really take care of what you are putting in your body, your skin will suffer. I would love it if I could go back and have some real talk with my 20-something year old self.  Girl, stop eating junk and put sunscreen on that neck!

If you’ve made it this far, thanks for joining me and I hope I can empower you to take your health seriously and take it to the next level. I have truly had a metamorphosis in my own health – I’ve struggled with weight my whole life and we will definitely be talking about that. I’m hoping I can cut out some of those years of struggle for you and encourage you to live your best, most healthy, fabulous life regardless of where you are sitting today.

Love,

Janie
