Cantaloupe Mojito Mocktail

I was talking to my daughter recently and we were talking about fun summer drinks. She suggested I make a fun drink to put on the blog before summer is over.  We were discussing how good a cucumber mojito sounded when my eyes locked on the big cantaloupe sitting on my counter. I researched recipes for inspiration and found one that sounded interesting to me that called for kombucha. I made it and took a sip and had to dump it out. That was not a good combo to me at all. The kombucha overpowered everything else that the drink had going on.🤨  And we all know that cantaloupe is a delicate-tasting melon. So, back to the drawing board!

I decided that since cantaloupe is so delicate and subtle that this recipe needed to be simple. I added mint, lime, cantaloupe juice and stevia and oh la la – it is SO delicious!!!

I blended the cantaloupe in my Vitamix and then strained it. I believe you could mash the cantaloupe and muddle it with the mint if you don’t mind the pulp. When Doug came in from mowing he was hot and I told him I had something for him to try in the fridge. His face lit up and he opened the fridge. He took a sip and said “hmmm...this is refreshing!” He then added a little tequila to his and I tasted it. That really rounded out the flavors. I’m personally taking a break from alcohol so I’ll be drinking mine alcohol free. However, tequila has the perfect flavor profile for this drink and I highly recommend it if you are so inclined!😘

Not a mocktail fan? Just add tequila!

I had the help of my husband and son taste-testing an alcoholic version of this concoction and they both loved it! My son recommended tequila specifically—he thought vodka might end up making the flavor profile more medicinal. Let me know if you try it out!

Cantaloupe Mojito Mocktail

(makes 2 servings)

  • ½  to 1 whole cantaloupe, cut in chunks

  • 1 lime juiced or 6 tablespoons of Santa Cruz lime juice

  • 10 mint leaves

  • Lime lacroix

  • Stevia to taste

  • Crushed ice

  • Lime slices and mint leaves for garnish

Directions: Puree the cantaloupe in a blender. My Vitamix made it very foamy so I strained it.  You should have about 1-½ cups of cantaloupe juice after blending. Add 5 mint leaves to the glass, add 3 tablespoons of lime juice to each glass and muddle the mint. Divide the cantaloupe juice between the two glasses, add a few drops of stevia, crushed ice and top off with lime lacroix. Stir together and garnish with a lime slice, mint sprig and a few cantaloupe balls.
Would this taste good as a cocktail? Yes!  Just add 1-2 ounces of tequila and stir.
Enjoy!
