Cleaning Out the Room

One Room Challenge, Week 2

After putting my mood board together, I have to say I’m feeling super motivated to clean out this room! We have got the hard wood floors scheduled to be installed and so we need to get busy. First order of business is to rent a storage unit.  We have been storing much of what we cleaned out of my office in this room. Not ideal - it’s time to make some decisions! There are some family heirlooms that we are hanging onto for the kids and then we have a whole lot of stuff we need to sell. We decided we would put all of it in the storage unit and have us a garage sale over there.

Cleaning out this room is super sentimental for me.  It is our son’s bedroom and we will probably always call it Matthew’s room regardless of what we use it for. We want Matthew (and his family one day) to still be able to come home and sleep in this room if he wants to when he visits.  Matthew always had an eye for design and so he loved hanging art and rearranging his room every few months. I never discouraged him. When he moved out, I patched all the holes and touched up the paint until I felt ready to give this room an update.

Matthew and I picked out the color of this room and I still really love it.  It’s Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore. Doug has always thought it was too dark and now that he’s going to be spending his workdays in there, we are picking a new color.  At the writing of this, I haven’t 100% picked the color, but I have a pretty good idea which one I’m going with.

I’ve been on the hunt for a sofa bed that will serve a dual purpose in this room. It needs to be used as somewhere for a guest to sit (probably me or Coconut-ha) when visiting Doug during the workday and also be able to be converted to a bed for overnight guests. There are some challenges to this though. The entry to this room has a narrow hallway before the room opens up. A traditional sofa bed will not fit through the entry. I’m going to have to find a sofa bed that comes unassembled or that the legs can come off to get it into the room.

We’ve also been on the hunt for a desk for Doug. I really want to find him something similar to the library table that I have in my office. It’s a nice big desk. Doug has multiple computers so he will need the extra workspace.

This week may seem a little dull since it just involved cleaning out the room. Next week should be a little more exciting when the floors get installed. Don’t forget to check out the other projects at ORC blog and give the participants a follow on Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube!
