Painting the Room
One Room Challenge, Week 4
This is one of the most fun weeks for me! Nothing transforms a room like paint! I really fussed over the paint for this room. I love the navy blue, but Doug has always thought it is too dark. Since he will be spending so much time in here, I want the color to make him happy but I also need it to be cohesive with the rest of the house. The color I chose is a Farrow & Ball color called de Nimes. I had it color matched and mixed in my favorite paint – Benjamin Moore Matte Aura. This paint has the look of flat paint but it is wipeable and washable which makes it a winner in my book!
I first tested the finalists on a white canvas before committing. I was still a little worried about the paint being too dark for Doug. The color is richer and deeper than what I used in my office, but I felt like Doug’s accessories needed a little more depth of color. Once I got my sample on the wall and saw how much lighter it is than the navy blue, I was sold! I got the paint mixed and we got the room prepped for painting!
First up, protecting those beautiful floors and taking off all of the switch plates and electrical outlets. I had patched the holes in this room when I touched up the paint after Matthew moved out but I noticed that some of the holes could use a little more work. I patched them and started trimming out the ceiling. I’ve been painting the ceiling in each room as we make them over so the whole room looks fresh and new! You just don’t realize how it grays or yellows over the years until you start repainting it. It’s worth the extra effort even though it’s tough on the neck and shoulders!
Next is trimming out around the whole room so it can be rolled. I absolutely love that moment when you start rolling out and cover an entire wall. It is so very satisfying! Wow, this color is amazing! Can you believe the difference?

Don’t forget to check out the other projects at ORC blog and give the participants a follow on Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube!
If you spotted a product that you’ve been dying to try, check out my links below. I have to give the Handy Paint Products a little shout out for sending me these cool painting supplies! My favorite is the Handy Pro Pail with handle to use while cutting in around the ceilings, windows and baseboards. They really nailed it when they chose the name “handy”! 😊 They are the handiest little tools I’ve used lately!
