We have wood floors!
One Room Challenge, Week 3
Don’t you just love it when things come together as planned? I was able to coordinate and have wood floors put in exactly on schedule which is a small miracle these days! Since we’ve done a few projects with the same hardwood company, we have developed a great rapport. As long as we are able to give them 4-6 weeks lead time, they are able to get our floors installed as scheduled. After we got the room cleaned out, we marked the places on the floor where there was creaking (note the taped areas on the carpet) and they were able to secure the subfloors to eliminate the squeaking and creaking in the subfloors.
They came in and were able to rip out the carpet and install most of the hardwood in the first day. On day 2, they installed the rest of the room and started sanding. By day 3, they were able to stain. On day 4, they applied the first coat of polyurethane and on day 5, they came back and applied the second coat of polyurethane. We had a little issue with some sawdust that fell into the newly applied poly from the plastic-covered ceiling fan. This caused them to have to lightly sand and apply a 3rd coat of poly. It slowed us down by a few days but within a week, we have new floors!
I have to say......they look incredible! Now, we have to let them sit a few days to fully cure. Once cured, we will be taping off the room and getting ready to paint!
While these floors are curing, Doug and I headed out thrifting!

We have lots of great thrifting options in the area and we are on the hunt for a secondhand vintage table to use as Doug’s desk. We started at the shop where we got my library table called Marigold Vintage, but they really didn’t have much furniture this go around. The owner had just purchased an old house chocked full of antiques and offered to send us pictures the next day of anything that she thought we might be interested. In the meantime, we shopped a few more places in Smiths Grove. We found a table I thought would be cool at the Fox Hole in the Grove but the shop had it fully decorated with items on top and so we didn’t disturb the set up and kept shopping.
We had a life-changing latte at Sly in the Grove which sent me on a hunt to the roaster that roasted their coffee beans. That brought us back to Bowling Green and I found the roaster on a lunch time walk around our charming downtown square. It was actually more like a treasure hunt and I have to thank my co-worker, Kim, for being game to go on the hunt with me! The roaster is Ridley’s Roasthouse and I have to say it was one of the best cups of coffee I’ve had since we were stationed in Hawaii. If you ever get the chance to try it, you should check it out. Check out their website—the owner Ben is one heck of a nice guy!

When we got back to Bowling Green that day, we went to all the consignment stores in Bowling Green to see if we could find a table that topped the one we found at Fox in the Hole. I was sold on the iron legs! It gave just the masculine vibe that I think Doug’s office needs.
We went back the next day with the trailer and picked up the desk. Unfortunately, it started raining on the way home, but we were able to dry the desk off and put it in the storage unit before it was completely soaked.

Since I knew that I’d want to paint as soon as we could get back in the room, I stopped in at Sherwin Williams and had them mix up the 4 top colors I had chosen: Downing Slate, Moody Blue, Distance and de Nimes. At the writing of this, de Nimes is my top choice!
For anyone that followed our project last year, I hope you are proud that we just went ahead and got those floors installed instead of lamenting that decision!😂 Next week we hope to show you a freshly painted room! Don’t forget to check out the other projects at https://www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog and give the participants a follow on Instagram, Tiktok and YouTube!

Trying out the paint colors on canvas boards!

DeNimes is definitely my favorite!

See how DeNimes works with our color palette upstairs? The flow is nice!
