It’s Paint Selection Time!
One Room Challenge, Week 3
It’s Week 3 of the One Room Challenge and I’m so excited how much this room is changing just with cleaning out the clutter! This week I have spent a lot of time at the paint store and in the room, painting samples on the wall and viewing at different times of day to see how the light hits.
This room is on the north facing side of the house so the colors are tricky. It also has two windows but the only time of day that it gets direct sunlight is early morning. There are trees right outside and the green from the trees and the grass have an impact on the wall color.
The other thing that is super tricky is this cigar-colored paint that is currently in the room (yes it was a hot color in the early 2000s). I painted these samples on the wall and just felt completely crippled as to what color I liked. What I thought I was going to like was kind of my least favorite color. I’ll admit I was considering just painting the room Accessible Beige and then a friend encouraged me to paint some samples on a white canvas to see if that would help make the colors seem true. What a great idea! Look how different they look on a canvas!

This little exercise completely changed my mind on what color I decided to go with. And just look at how good these two final contenders look against the rug!

Here are a few of the colors that I was considering for this room. Acacia Haze, Dried Thyme, Retreat and Basil.
The other factors I have to consider are the tones of wood that will be in this room. I’m planning to use my antique headboard and dresser and they are both a very warm oak. I want the wall color to complement the warm wood.
