Painting the Room and Other Fun Things

One Room Challenge, Week 4

It’s Week 4 of the One Room Challenge and we have made lots of progress! The first round of painting in this room is finished and I just love the color! We will need to do another round of painting to touch up in places after the bed and bookcases are installed. Wow, wow, wow is all I can say!

I had to paint the ceiling which is never fun with a textured ceiling. My dream is to have a house one day that has smooth ceilings! At least the texture is subtle but it’s still a little tricky to paint. It’s easy to miss spots with a paint roller. I used a lamp to shine up to make sure I didn’t miss any spots.  I even laid in the middle of the floor to take a break after cutting in with the new wall color to make sure I didn’t miss any spots! It looks great!

For the walls, I chose Acacia Haze. It’s a very soothing grayish green that reminds me of Lamb’s Ear. It is so pretty and much darker in the room than it looked on the paint sample I painted originally. I have to say that this color is so cozy, calm and soothing! I’m super excited to get the rest of the room together because I feel like it’s going to be so good!

For the trim, Murphy bed and bookcases, I chose Ash White by Sherwin Williams in an oil base paint. This is the same trim color I used in the rest of the house and I wanted to keep it consistent. I haven’t painted the trim yet. Since the Murphy bed and bookcases will need to be painted, I decided to just deal with oil-based paint when it’s time to paint the bed.

Now to the other fun things! The rug came in! As you will recall, Amazon said it was the last one and it freaked me out but I got it. Now, I’ve been a little worried that once we have the bookcases built that I won’t have enough room for the rug. That would be tragic, wouldn’t it? I’ll order the smaller size and work it out but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will be fine and also once I clean up my drop cloths will get the measuring tape in there again and make sure I haven’t under or overestimated the space.

Remember that table and chair I had on hold in Smiths Grove? We picked them up and I’m so in love with the chair! The table needs some work but I really love it too. I brought the chair home and treated it with flea powder, just in case. (I think this is always a good idea when thrifting upholstered pieces. Ask me how I know?! - ha!)  The chair is in great shape and I’ll be using my carpet cleaner to clean the velvet and some old English to clean up the wood. The caning is in such good shape!

Stay tuned for next week when we start building the Murphy bed! And if you want to go back and see all of the paint colors I was considering, review the mood board or see the awful shape this room was in when we started, check out the other weeks below. Also, check out the other incredible participants at the ORC blog.  There are some fantastic projects out there!
