The End is in Sight!

One Room Challenge, Week 10

It's been almost 2 months since the grand reveal for the One Room Challenge which was Phase 1 of this project.  We are still working on Phase 2 of this room.  We now have hardwood floors and they look AMAZING!  I’m so glad we chose to pivot slightly and give this time to happen. While they were working on the floors, we were busy little bees working on the bookcases.  We have the bookcases built and they are ready to install now that the floors have fully cured.

We had to do a lot of reverse engineering to figure out how to put the bookcases together and the jury is still out on whether our plan worked. πŸ˜‰ This part of the project has almost been harder than the first phase because there are no plans to go by. I do not want the bookcases to stick out further than the bed so there is a lot of math and calculations that have had to be figured out.  Hopefully we’ve done that! I know it’s going to be fabulous either way!

The darker green that I’ve painted on the wall is what will show when the bed is open. I have a special wainscoting and accent wall planned to add visual interest. You will not see green at all on that wall when the bed is closed. When the bed is open, ooh la la.....it’s going to be fabulous! πŸ˜‰

We worked with a local hardwood company called Thanh’s Hardwood Floors Co. in Bowling Green and they did an amazing job.

Let me tell you.....watching that 30-year-old carpet walking out the door was a happy day for me! Here are some photos of the whole process of the carpet coming out and the wood going in. It’s really something to watch the transformation!

And here are some photos of us building the bookcases! Hopefully we will have the bookcases installed in the next week or so and then we can paint everything. We invested in a very cool paint sprayer that is powered by a drill. We plan to spray the bookcases to save some time and energy. This may just open up a whole new world for us!

Another side project for this room is this funky little chair we found at a shop in Smiths Grove called Marigold Vintage (isn’t that the cutest name ever?). When we found it, it had this very loved furry fabric on it.  It kind of looked like the Monstrous Book of Monsters from Harry Potter! 😊 We removed that immediately and found a very bright gold tweed fabric which I’m sure is original to the chair. We removed the seat and found this curious little leather tag on it.

I did a little research and what we have here is a chair made by W.H. Gunlocke Chair Co., in Wayland, N.Y. When I found these chairs online, they are retailing for $750 on Etsy! We paid $50 for this chair! I have some fabric left over from another project that I plan to use to recover this seat cushion. Stay tuned to see this little furry monster get a much needed makeover!πŸ˜‰
