One Room Challenge

(Week 547 πŸ˜‚)

I’m kidding of course!  It has been 4 weeks since the big reveal of the Murphy bed so I thought a little update of where we are with Phase 2 of the room is in order! I so enjoyed pulling the room together and decorating it for Phase 1. It really showed me that my vision was coming together and that in the end it will all be beautiful!

First, I have a confession to make. Redoing this room and building a Murphy bed in 8 weeks just about did me in. Doug and I worked every single day after work and all day every weekend.  And when I say all day, I mean we didn’t knock off most nights until 8-9pm and then we still had to eat dinner.

This isn’t a healthy way to live so if you’re doing that, stop it now! Have dinner when it’s still daytime and have a little downtime every night because your body needs it. How am I able to pass on such words of wisdom? I have been battling adrenal dysfunction this year. I was feeling better but guess what?  Not so much right now.  So, I’m having to baby myself a little and getting this room done is going to take a lot longer than anticipated. Plus, we have made a huge pivot in our plans that in the end will be amazing, but it slows the process down. Can you guess what it is?! Keep reading to the end!

So after enjoying the room a few days all nice and pretty, we sadly tore it all down except for the Murphy bed. We started trying to figure out how to build these bookcases. Doug and I had different opinions on how they should look, but fortunately Doug listened to reason and is trusting my vision. (yes, we had some fairly aggressive negotiations!) 😊 When we started cutting boards for the base, we realized that the Murphy bed was slightly rotated. We needed to straighten it out but couldn’t because it’s tough to make tiny adjustments on carpet. So, this led to the dramatic change we decided on!

We are getting this 30-year-old carpet ripped out and hardwood floors installed! It has been a little bit dramatic trying to figure out how to do this with the bed anchored to the wall but we think we have it worked out. I’ll update you again once we have the floors finished to let you know how we did it.

We have started building the bases of the bookcases, but we cannot install anything until the floors go in and they are set to go in a few weeks from now.

Here are some pictures of our progress on the project – enjoy! 😊

Here’s a sneak peek at my next DIY project for this room! πŸ‘€ I can’t wait to tell you the story of this antiquing score and let you in on my plans to restyle it for this space!

This cushion looks like the Monstrous Book of Monsters from Harry Potter πŸ˜‚ And we're gonna fix that!
