I’ve Had my Pottery Barn Sofas for 2 Years–Here’s How They’re Holding Up
BEFORE
AFTER
Since it’s been close to 2 years since I got my Pottery Barn sofas, let’s talk about how they are holding up! If you are anything like me, you may be impressed with how Pottery Barn’s sofas look in their catalogs and even more impressed with how they look in the store. But what about later? What about a few years later? This is what I want to talk about today. I want to talk about what it’s like to live with these sofas. I want to discuss removing stains, the fluffiness and durability of the cushions and if there are any negatives.
We LIVE in our house and by that, I mean, we don’t put down protective throws, blankets or towels to protect our furniture. We use it! We sit on it! We have drinks on it! We snack on it! (No, we’re not animals—we use plates!!! 😂)
Since we got these sofas, we’ve had 2 small incidents. The first involved a certain hubby plopping on the couch with a glass of red wine in his hand. And yes, he truly plopped! 😂 The next day, I saw a spray of red wine on the couch. I got a damp white cloth and blotted at the stain, and it just immediately came up. Poof – it was gone! It amazed me. The other incident was when I sat on the couch with my sneakers on and crossed my feet at the ankles. The sole of my shoe hit the bottom of the couch and left a dirty smudge. I didn’t notice it until the next day. I lightly thumped the fabric next to the stain and some of the dirt fell out. I then used a damp white cloth and lightly rubbed over the stain, and it disappeared. These performance fabrics are true to their word – they perform beautifully! I did an extensive test before I made my final decision and was really happy with how everything came out so easily, you can check that out here!
Next, let’s talk about wear and tear. We have a super sweet and playful kitty that loves to jump on the couch. He only has his back claws and even with all of his running and jumping, the fabric does not pull. The cushions that we sit on the most have a little bit of an indentation where we sit but can be easily fluffed back up. The arms of the sofa still look brand new. I worried that oils from our skin could stain the arm rests, but that has not happened at all. They still look brand new.
Coconut likes to “scratch” one corner of the couch. Even though he doesn’t have his claws, the potential for one area of the fabric looking worn or dirty in that spot is high. I caught him in the act today and this spot still looks brand new despite his antics.🐈
The cushions maintain their shape and fluff. Once a month or so, I like to fluff everything up. The down wrapped cushions are comfortable and fluff right back to look brand new. The seat, back and lumbar cushions are all holding up very well.

The only negative I can possibly come up with is that the little pin feathers from the down wrapping work their way to the surface sometimes and can be scratchy. If fluffing the cushion doesn’t work the feathers back into the fabric, I pull them out and throw them away.
I’m sure it will come as no surprise that we sit on the sofa that faces the television the most. 😂 Since we sit on one sofa more than the other, I have been switching out the cushions approximately every 6 months, so the cushions wear evenly.
Here’s the exact sofa that I have:
All in all, we are super pleased with our Pottery Barn sofas and would 100% buy them again. If you’d like to read more about how I selected these particular sofas, please read this post. And if you’re more interested in the performance fabrics and stain removal, please check out this blog post.
