The Big Reveal

Fall 2024 One Room Challenge, Week 8

BEFORE

AFTER

It’s the finale of the Fall One Room Challenge and I couldn’t be happier with how this room turned out! It feels like it was a very long road to get here but we are finished and just in the nick of time for the holidays! Now, you have to know that I’m being very creative with the word “finished” right now! 😂 We are finished with the challenge and we are ready for our Thanksgiving guests to arrive, but there are some finishing touches that still need to take place in this room.

Let’s start with what we’ve done this past week! We have painted all the doors and put the final coat on the shelves.  Our cabinet maker came back with brand new doors and drawers and this time, they are perfect! The cabinet style is now cohesive with the Murphy bed, and we are tickled with it! Once the cabinet maker was finished, I was able to put the final coat on the actual bookcases and touch up a few areas. I also had to touch up the wall where I kept bumping it with the bookcase paint (man did I get frustrated with myself because I did it like 4 freaking times)!!!😂 That’s what I get for holding a paintbrush and paint roller at the same time! After finishing all the paint touch ups, I caulked the sides of the bookcase that were next to the wall. Wow – it’s looking so good!

Once all this messy stuff was finished, we were able to take up the floor protection paper and the scrap pieces of carpet. We then vacuumed, swept and mopped the floor to get rid of all the sawdust and debris. Hello beautiful wood floors – we've missed you! 🥰

We then brought in the lovely Chris Loves Julia x Loloi rug and rolled it out on the floor! This is by far my very favorite rug and it looks so amazing with the wall color. And, it also complements the oak flooring beautifully.  We then brought in the desk and it was so heavy!😅 We had to rest 3 times between the garage and upstairs!😂 The desktop turned out a little darker than we had hoped, and we may try a technique to lighten it a little, but there’s no time to fool with that before our guests arrive for Thanksgiving next week.

We then hung up our curtain rods. I had to do a thunder run to pick up drapery hooks and I  hung up these beautiful curtains from Ballard Designs. Oh my – this is my favorite part of the project – getting to finally style the room! These curtains still need to be trained. I barely got them out of the package in time for these pictures.

One of the things that I’ve been most excited about with this project is finally having some bookcases to display some of my treasured pieces. So, naturally I’ve been styling them in my mind for months! I love a house with a lot of built-ins and well, this house has none....until now! Guess we will have to work to change that! Do I have a new project brewing?! Maybe.......but let’s keep it between us.....I think Doug needs a break!😂

So, let’s talk about the punch list of things that still need to happen. I’m going to have to buy myself an office chair. I wanted to use the caned wing back but it’s not tall enough and even if we put pretty casters on it, it will not be tall enough. It’s a great chair though and I’m going to use it as a side chair. Let’s be real though, Coconut will probably clock in countless hours in that chair! 🐈 The mid-century modern chair turned out 1000% better than I ever imagined! Kudos to Doug for wanting to buy that chair. I’ll admit that I didn’t want it but I’m so glad we got it. The desk still needs a coat of polyurethane, but we are going to try to lighten it a bit before applying poly.

We still need to attach the baseboards and add shoe molding. There are a few little diys that I have planned for this room that I didn’t get to, but be sure to follow me on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Pinterest so you don’t miss those! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they turn out the way I have them planned in my mind.

Every time I walk by this room, I fall in love with it just a little bit more. I’ll be excited to start working in here soon!  Can we just give each other about a gazillion high fives right now?! We are so tickled with the way this room turned out!💕
